BTC

The Bristol Together Championships (BTC) is an annual sporting tournament working with Bristol City Community Trust pulling together Primary Schools from across the city and surrounding areas.  However, a school can only enter by twinning with a school serving children from a very different background and forming a joint team.

HOW IT WORKS:

Primary schools representing the diverse communities (race, class and residential status) that make up the city of Bristol and its surrounding areas including schools that are on the North Somerset and South Gloucester/ Bristol Borders are invited to join.

Schools will be asked to enter 5 children (at least one of which must be a girl) and then twin with a school with children from a different background and enter a joint team (we will help make the pairing with the other schools that have entered).  They will also be required (and supported) to run four joint training sessions in the lead up to the tournament, two each at their respective sites.  During these sessions they will need to jointly come up with a team name (there are example from previous years on the Previous Events page add link to the words).

The teams will be required to arrive at the tournament site where they will be registered and shown where to go.  The tournament will work a bit like the world cup with a minimum of 2 first stage groups each team playing every other team in their group.  The semi finals will be played by the top team from each first stage group playing the second team of each group.  The final will be made up of the winning teams from the semi finals and the 3rd/4th play offs will be played to determine final positions.

Straight after the tournament there will be a short presentation and celebration all together to give out
medals and trophies.

We will give each child a journal so that they can write down their thoughts and feelings about the other school before they meet for the first time.  We will then ask that  they do it again after each training session and again during and after the tournament.  This is so that we can get the children’s raw thoughts, unedited or coached, so that we can see if their thoughts and opinions have changed.

The 2017 tournament details will available shortly.
